Parental Assistance with Schools Systems Provided by The Reading Connection

School Advocacy and Mediation

Dealing with school officials can be confusing and intimidating. The Reading Connection can help parents navigate the complicated school system to ensure their child has the necessary support to be successful. We will be an advocate for our client's, ensuring their child's educational needs are properly understood and addressed by the school. We also assist parents in developing positive partnerships with the school, teachers, and administrators and mediate any misunderstandings or difficulties that may arise.

We can assist schools in writing reports and action plans including:

  • IEPs (individual education plan).
  • TAKS or other standardized testing plans for students.
  • RTI (response to intervention) plans.
  • 504 Accommodation Plans including:
    • dyslexia;
    • ADHD;
    • anxiety;
    • depression;
    • autism spectrum disorders;
    • language learning disabilities.
  • Additional reporting assistance.

We also help parents cope with the difficulties associated with the diagnosis of reading and learning differences. We help parents to structure and organize the home environment so that they meet the specific needs of children with various learning differences. We also assist parents with schools by:

  • Attending parent meetings (IEP, ARD (admission review dismissal), 504).
  • Providing diagnostic reports.
  • Describing our reading intervention services.
  • Informing parents of their legal rights.
  • Ensuring proper instruction is administered.
